On a wet Tuesday evening, at Den Grå Hal, the old military riding hall in the free city of Christiania is home to Altın Gün and their Turkish-Dutch mix of world music.

The hall is filled with people ready to listen to some warm tones, even though it is cold and most are wearing jackets: the temperature is far from the hot Summers in Anatolia.

The concert started quietly with a calm jazz selection, that the audience enjoyed relaxedly, maybe also due to the unmistakable smell of marijuana in the air.

It changed after 4-5 songs, where the tempo was turned up and you began to feel the psychedelic, underlined by the lights flashing blue and red while the smoke machines pumped out.

As the crowd warmed up from dancing and a new song was about to begin, lead singer Erdinç Ecevit Yıldız introduced a Danish guest on stage and Andreas came in to play on saxophone and clarinet, and he did so quite well for one song. That brought the party down a bit before the concert switched back to the more intense and danceable sound.

If you’re open to a different concert experience, Altın Gün come highly recommended.
